Wallaceburg man’s death part of joint inquest

The details surrounding the death of a Wallaceburg man will be part of a joint inquest, which was announced last week by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

Provincial officials said in a press released that Dr. Rick Mann, Regional Supervising Coroner for West Region, London Office, announced on February 6 that a joint inquest will be held into the deaths of Wallaceburg’s John Janssens and two other men.

Janssens, 73, died on January 15, 2016; Michael Maukonen, 19, died on June 28, 2016; and William Swan, 56, died on May 16, 2017, from injuries sustained from a fall while working at various roof construction projects.

An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act. provincial officials stated.

“The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding their deaths,” Provincial officials said in a media release.

“The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths.”

Details regarding the date and location have not been confirmed and they will be provided at a later date.

Dr. Elizabeth Urbantke will preside as inquest coroner. Gideon Bloch will be counsel to the coroner, Provincial officials stated.
