Counterfeit cash, fraud, assaulting an officer

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last Wednesday morning, a man attended McDonald’s in Wallaceburg and used a counterfeit $20 bill to pay for his order.

Through investigation, police identified the man responsible and attempts were made to locate him.

On Friday night, an officer on general patrol observed the man riding his bicycle on Dufferin Avenue.

As the officer stopped the man and placed him under arrest for fraud, the man resisted and a struggle began.

The man was able to escape and fled on foot.

The officer suffered minor injuries as a result of the altercation.

Yesterday morning, police located the man at a residence in Wallaceburg and he was arrested.

The 27-year-old man has been charged with fraud under $5,000, using counterfeit money, assaulting a peace officer and escape lawful custody.

He was transported to the Courthouse pending a bail hearing.
