Stolen camera gear recovered in time for wedding shoot

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On Saturday afternoon, around 3:30 p.m. police responded to a theft in the downtown Chatham area.

A man riding a bicycle stole camera equipment from a photographer preparing for a wedding.

Dispatchers immediately broadcasted the man’s physical descriptors and last known direction to officers.

Within minutes, an officer on general patrol located the man and recovered the stolen camera equipment valued at approximately $8000.

The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters. Another officer rushed to where the wedding was taking place and returned the camera equipment to the photographer just in time to capture the bride and groom’s special day.

A 60-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft over $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000.

He was released pending a future court date of March 19, 2019.
