This is a casual relief “elect to work” position with no standard or guaranteed weekly hours. Work will be offered as per the hours Thrift Store hours of operation Monday to Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00p.m. Includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable. Shifts include days and weekends.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Opening and closing the store.
Contribute to meeting store budgets by maintaining customer service standards.
Process customer transactions at the sales counter including cash and debit/credit sales ensuring accuracy
Assist with store layout plans to attract customers, which include window displays and merchandise displays; ensures attractiveness of the store through “Tidy Maintenance”.
Replenish inventory levels based on supervisor’s directions.
Contribute to the control of inventory by receiving, sorting, and pricing as per directions.
Select donations for store distribution meeting established standards of quality and distinguishing between discarded and good quality merchandise according to company standards; ensure that all products are priced correctly as per store policy.
Contribute to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, cleans spillage).
Process donated items by unloading, sorting, and packing, storing, loading and baling the donations: protects the integrity of the donations.
Assist donors with their donations, unload donations and place stock in appropriate locations.
Be knowledgeable regarding product pricing and featured sale products.
Contribute to meeting store sales targets; provide efficient courteous customer service; use tact and courtesy when dealing with difficult donors/customers.
Inform the Thrift Store Manager of all donor/customer complaints, comments and concerns regarding customer service etc.
Pay attention to store security, by monitoring activity in the store.
Maintain an attractive organized appearance of the store and back area. Sweep, vacuum and dust as necessary.
Work with volunteers as assigned.
Perform other position related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completed Secondary School
Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience in a retail environment and warehouse processing or goods distribution and knowledge of lifting guidelines
Cash handling experience is required and Knowledge and experience using a cash register, POS, Interact and/or credit card processing.
Brand awareness and retail experience would be a definite asset
Able to stand for long periods, there is frequent twisting, bending, crouching, and reaching
Ability to lift/move on a regular basis up to 25 pounds
Self-motivated and disciplined.
Good listening, interpersonal and customer service skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
With direction and support, become part of a productive team
Provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
