Since the inception of the Defiance Running Club in Wallaceburg, Pastor Brian Horrobin has run a distance nearly equal to four crossings of Canada, from east to west.

The group gathered last week to celebrate Horrobin’s milestone, which recognized him eclipsing the 20,000 kilometre mark with his personal runs.

“I’m very humbled,” Horrobin said, after being presented with a trophy by the club.

Mark Childs, the president of the club, said local runners Bryan Cowden and Joe Perry are the next closest with 14,796 and 14,445 km logged.

Childs said the club as a whole is closing in on 400,000 kilometres, which surpasses the distance to the moon.

“I hope Brian is the first of many to do this, but you are the first,” Childs said.

“It’s very impressive.”

Childs added the club’s ‘Couch to 5k’ program starts in April.

They will also be holding their second annual Shamrocks and Shenanigans Run on March 16.
