Even when the ice melts in the Sydenham River, no boats will be able to pass under the Lord Selkrik Bridge in Wallaceburg until May.

Municipality of Chatham-Kent officials made the announcement in a press release sent on Tuesday.

“In order to accommodate the ongoing construction of the bridge; and to maintain a safe construction site for workers and marine traffic; the waterway below the Lord Selkirk Bridge is currently closed to all boat traffic and will remain inaccessible until May 2019,” Municipal officials stated.

“Thank you for your co-operation.”

Municipal officials say the bridge is closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic until late August 2019.

“Detours are in place for all vehicles,” Municipal officials say.

“Temporary traffic signals will be installed at the intersection of Reaume Ave. and Murray St. within the next two weeks.”
