The annual Canada Day festivities in Wallaceburg are moving to a new location in 2019.

Chris Glassford, the organizer for the Wallaceburg Canada Day Celebration, said the event will shift from Kinsmen Park in Wallaceburg to Perry Park, which is located behind Walmart between Lowe Avenue and Gillard Street.

“Upon taking over the Canada Day (event), I immediately started asking people around me what they liked and disliked about the Canada Day,” Glassford told the Sydenham Current.

“To my surprise the venue seemed to be the one thing everyone agreed was not ideal.”

Glassford said one of the issues brought forward was parking.

“Which we have solved with the Perry Park location,” he said.

“Another issue was mosquitoes, which we believe to be less of an issue at this location due to the grass being kept cut frequently. We also were told the heat was an issue, we are working on shade tents and other methods of cooling down currently.”

Glassford said visitors can look forward to family karaoke, 19+ beverage gardens, bouncy castles, face painting, vendors and the featured party band ‘Those Guys’ before the ceremonious fireworks.

Bill Namink, a board member with the Wallaceburg Soccer Association (WSA), told the Sydenham, Current that the Wallaceburg Soccer Association has come to an agreement with the Canada Day organizers to hold the event at Perry.

“This event promises to be even better than before,” Namink said.

“As a board member of WSA it was discussed and all agreed this location was a much better fit for Wallaceburg to have the Canada Day celebrations on the property, known as Perry Park. The site lines for the fireworks will be fantastic with much more room for seating, with nearby parking at the shopping locations.”

Namink added: “WSA is pleased to have it at Perry Park as it contributes to the value of Wallaceburg and hope that everyone enjoys Canada’s Day. We ask all attending to be mindful that soccer games are expected the following day and to not litter, which will dramatically reduce the volunteer work load.”
