The second annual ‘Shamrocks & Shenanigans’ run/walk is taking place in Wallaceburg on Saturday, March 16.

Mark Childs, the president of the Defiance Running Club, told the Sydenham Current there are 170 people registered so far.

“We will easily exceed last years,” he said.

“We are hoping for about 190.”

Childs said the run/walk will feature the same format as their inaugural event held last year.

“It is just that a lot of people weren’t aware of what we did last year so we have a lot of newbies out,” he said.

“This year there is a lot of people coming back from last year because they enjoyed the race. It is a fun run. It is one of the most fun runs you can do.”

Childs said the run/walk is geared toward all ages.

“We have a kids and candy division, we have the 2.5km for those that aren’t really up to a full 5km. They can do a single loop and then a double loop for everybody else.”

The event, which is starting and finishing at the UAW Hall, will feature Irish stew, biscuits, commemorative glasses, a technical shirt and more.

“Everything that you want in a run… and free beer,” he said.

“You can’t go wrong.”

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
