– The BIA Farmers’ Market Coordinator is a seasonal, paid volunteer position (May 2019-October 2019). One in which someone who is passionate about the Farmers’ Market and would like to get involved, will also receive some compensation. Perfect for a hobbyist, retiree or agriculture student.

The ideal candidate must have demonstrated ability to work effectively alone or with minimum supervision, be friendly and able to work with a wide variety of guests and vendors to ensure the best possible market day. Candidates must also have excellent organizational and prioritization skills, the ability to multitask, and strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities include:

– Working with Wallaceburg Farmers’ Market Committee (WFMC), a sub-committee of the Downtown Wallaceburg Business Improvement Association (BIA) on all aspects of planning and execution of scheduled markets;

– Complete the Ontario Market Manager Certification on-line webinar program;

– Attending markets and helping with setup, takedown, manning WFM booth when necessary, providing vendor and customer service (market dates: June 1; July 13; Aug. 17 and Sept. 21);

– Act as a liaison between the WFMC and local media to assist in creating media releases, PSA and advertisements to promote the market;

– Act as a liaison between the WFMC and the Downtown Wallaceburg BIA;

– Work with downtown retailers on market day promotions;

– Assist WFMC in recruiting and educating market vendors; explaining our rules, the policies behind the rules, and the consequences and processes used to monitor the rules

– Perform some administrative, office support and other duties as required;

Additional consideration will be given to candidates who demonstrate the following:

Experience/education related to Environmental or Agriculture studies; Tourism; Communications/Marketing

Experience growing a social media presence on Facebook/Instagram. Graphic Design skills as well as photography are assets.

This paid volunteer position has an monthly wage rate of $600 plus vacation and statutory benefits according to the employment standards act. The chosen candidate will be required to complete their Health & Safety and other on-line mandatory training on or before their first day of employment. Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search prior to commencement of employment (dated in 2019 and no earlier than six months prior to the date of employment). Because this position may be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver’s license with a reliable motor vehicle is preferred.
