Fraud Warning: ‘Grandparents Scam’

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Recently, a local citizen reported to police that he received a call from a woman purporting to be his granddaughter from Alberta, advising that she needed money for bail as she had been involved in a collision.

A man then took the phone and advised he was her lawyer and that she needed $8,500.

Although, the man does have a grandchild in Alberta, he was not fooled by this scam and alerted authorities.

The Chatham-Kent Police would like to remind everyone to take the time to verify the story.

Scammers are counting on you to act quickly to help your loved one.
