Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, shortly after 2:30 p.m. emergency crews responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a Via Rail Train on Keil Drive in Chatham.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that a woman travelling southbound on Keil Drive, crossed the railway tracks and was struck by a Via Rail Train travelling eastbound.
First officers on scene, removed the woman from her vehicle and began life saving efforts.
The 54-year-old Chatham woman was rushed to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance where unfortunately she succumbed to her injuries.
At this time the identity of the woman will not be released out of respect for her family.
The Traffic Unit has taken over the investigation.
