Multi-unit four plex blaze in Chatham (Photos)

Firefighters responded to a blaze at a multi-unit four plex in Chatham on Tuesday.

Crews from Station #1 and #2 were called to 56 Wellington St. E. at 1:28 p.m.

“When crews arrived on scene there were several residents waiting outside, however bystanders communicated that someone may still be inside,” Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services officials stated.

“Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and conducted a primary and secondary search of the building. No one was inside and there were no injuries. There were a number of pets safely rescued by firefighters and victim services on scene to assist displaced families.”

Fire officials estimate the approximate loss is $150,000 as a result of the fire.

The cause if the fire remains under investigation.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management was set to attend the scene to investigate the cause.
