Police: ‘Swinging garbage bag’ assault, impaired

Man charged with uttering threats

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, a 24-year-old man was walking along Richmond Street when he was threatened with a knife by a man unknown to him also walking in the area.

No one was physically injured.

A 26-year-old Lambton man was arrested and charged with uttering threats and weapons dangerous.

He was released pending a future court date of May 7, 2019.

Man charged with assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, an apartment manager on Grand Avenue in Chatham approached a man going through a dumpster on the property.

The man jumped out of the dumpster and began swinging garbage bags while threatening the manager.

When police were called, the man fled on foot.

Officers located the man and he was taken into custody.

The 25-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with uttering threats and assault.

He was transported to the Courthouse pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with impaired driving

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police received information that a man driving an e-bike on Spencer Avenue had just fallen off and struck his head.

The man was transported to hospital for medical attention.

Through investigation, police believed the man was driving while impaired and he was arrested.

A 54-year-old Chatham man has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

He was released pending a future court date of May 3, 2019.

The e-bike was towed from the scene and his license has been suspended to 90 days.

Executed warrants

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, a man wanted for failing to comply with his release conditions was arrested in Sarnia.

A 53-year-old man of no fixed address was released pending a future court date of May 7, 2019.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police located a woman wanted for failing to comply with her release conditions.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the woman was found to be in possession of cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine.

A 25-year-old Chatham woman was additionally charged with three counts of drug possession.

She was released pending a future court date of May 9, 2019.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police arrested a woman wanted for mischief and failing to attend court.

A 48-year-old Tilbury woman was released pending a future court date of May 3, 2019.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Early this morning, police located a man wanted for theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and failing to attend court.

The 35-year-old Chatham man was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.

B&E in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between Sunday night at 7 p.m. and Monday morning at 7 a.m. unknown suspects forced their way into a construction trailer parked in the area of Fifth Street and Thames Street.

Once inside, the suspects stole approximately $100 in copper wiring.

Suspects also entered the construction area and caused about $10,000 damage.
