Organizers with Community Living Wallaceburg are thrilled with the turnout, as the annual Box Lunch Fundraiser was held on Thursday morning, April 11.

Rhian Reilly, communications and fund development specialist, told the Sydenham Current she was amazed by the community support leading up to Thursday’s event.

“It’s an amazing community,” Reilly said.

“It’s my first year doing Box Lunch and I’m absolutely blown away by the amount of support we get from the local community through volunteers, through sponsors and through people ordering lunches as well. It has been absolutely incredible.”

Reilly said they were delivering just over 2,000 lunches, which is slightly down from last year.

“We’re really pleased with what we’ve done this year,” she said.

“We’re going as far as Ridgetown, we’re going to Thamesville, we’re going to Petrolia, we’re going up to Corunna, we’re going to Tilbury. We’ve got 64 drivers arriving shortly and they’re going to be going all over Chatham-Kent and Lambton delivering for us.”

In total, over 100 volunteers were helping out for the event, Reilly said.

When all of the fundraising dollars are totaled, Reilly said she anticipates making approximately $9,000 through the event.

“We’re really, really happy and we hope to see everyone back next year,” she said.

“A massive thank-you to our community. It’s a wonderful place to live and everybody just rallies and it’s just amazing.”

The Community Living Box Lunch program is one of the many fundraisers held by the Wallaceburg non-profit organization and helps raise much needed funds for a wide variety of supports and services that the organization offers.

The lunches were available for $10 and included one of three sandwich choices, a side, fresh fruit, bottle of water and a desert, all served in a reusable lunch bag.
