Charges laid after rollover crash on the 401

Chatham-Kent OPP officials allege: On April 11, 2019 at approximately 2 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of a motor vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 401 at a high rate of speed.

Chatham OPP members set up observation for the vehicle near the Essex County/Chatham-Kent County border.

The vehicle was captured on radar two separate times, one in excess of 195 kilometers per hour.

In the interest of public safety officers maintained observation on the vehicle attempting to identify it or the driver while notifying additional units further east to observe for the vehicle.

The vehicle continued eastbound and near the 112 kilometer marker lost control, entered the south ditch and rolled over.

The lone occupant male driver was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

A 28-year-old Toronto man was later arrested and released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Chatham on May 31, 2019 charged with the following Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act Offences:

– Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

– Stunt Driving

His driver’s license has been suspended as per the regulations of the HTA.
