More vandalism at 5th St. Bridge

(Municipality of Chatham-Kent)

Vandals have struck once again at the 5th Street Bridge construction project in Chatham.

“The Municipality of Chatham-Kent would again like to remind the public to please respect the traffic and pedestrian control measures in place during construction on the Fifth Street Bridge, Municipal officials said in a press release.

“These controls are in place for the safety of both the public and construction workers alike.”

Municipal officials say on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, a motorist opened the barricades and proceeded to drive across the bridge, putting not only themselves at risk, but construction workers as well.

After hours, vandals again targeted construction equipment on the bridge.

Such actions continue to cause further delays to the Fifth Street Bridge project.

If anyone has any information about these recent acts of vandalism or witness any suspicious activity at the bridge, please contact Chatham-Kent Police Services immediately.
