Walkin’ 47 opening for Sam Roberts

Legendary Canadian rock act Sam Roberts Band will take the Tecumseh Park stage in Chatham, Ontario on Friday, June 21, at 9:00pm. Prior to that, attendees to RetroFest and the RM Sotheby’s 40th Anniversary celebration will welcome local favourite Walkin ’47, who will open the show at 7:30pm. Gates will open at 6:00pm.

All proceeds from the concert will benefit Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation (CKHAF) in support of healthcare in Chatham-Kent. CKHAF is a registered charity that links the community with its local hospital by raising money to help fund excellence in quality care that improves and saves lives every day.

“June 21st promises to be an memorable day for everyone in our community, and we are delighted that the proceeds from the event will make an impact on patient care at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance,” said Mary Lou Crowley, President & CEO, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation. “We are also thrilled to have been given the opportunity to partner with RM Sotheby’s and RetroFest during this historic weekend.”

Canadian singer/songwriter Sam Roberts released his debut, The Inhuman Condition, in 2002 and it became the best-selling independent EP in Canadian history. In 2003 he released his first
full-length album, We Were Born in a Flame, which was Certified Double-Platinum and won the Juno Award for Album of the Year, Rock Album of the Year, and Artist of the Year. He continued to release hit albums for the remainder of the decade. For his 2011 release, Collider, Roberts changed from using his name to using Sam Roberts Band. In 2014, Lo-Fantasy was released to great acclaim, and in TerraForm was released, the band’s 6th studio album. Most recently
Roberts released We Were Born In A Flame 2018 Deluxe Edition, which included previously unreleased tracks on 3 LPs.

Formed out of a love for Canadian music, Walkin’ 47 has been playing the local music scene since 2007. They have been honoured to open up for such Canadian icons as The Trews and Sloan, and the chance to open up for Sam Roberts Band during the RM Sotheby’s 40th Anniversary weekend is just the next step in a career that now spans more than a decade.

“In addition to the car show, the parade, and everything else happening that weekend, I’m really looking forward to the live music that we get to showcase,” said Rob Myers, Founder, Chairman & CEO of RM Sotheby’s. “I also couldn’t be happier to be able to support local talent like Walkin’47 by adding them to the bill for what promises to be a stellar show with Sam Roberts Band.”
