Police: Drug charges following traffic stop, B&E

Traffic enforcement leads to drug charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Early Thursday morning at 2 a.m. an officer on general patrol stopped a vehicle on Grant Street at Grand Avenue in Chatham.

As a result of this stop, a 31-year-old Walpole Island woman was charged with driving while under suspension.

Through further investigation, drugs were found during a search of the vehicle prior to it being towed and impounded.

The woman was additionally charged with the following offences:

– Possession of a Schedule I Substance x 2

– Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking

She was transported to CKPS Headquarters and later released with a future court date.

Man and woman charged with break and enter:

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Early Wednesday morning at 5:30 a.m. police attended a vacant house on McNaughton Avenue E. in Chatham.

They responded to this residence due to a call from an observant citizen who saw people inside with flashlights.

At 5:44 a.m. the officers located two people inside.

The 45-year-old Chatham man and the 24-year-old Chatham woman were arrested and charged with break and enter.

They were transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and later released with future court dates.

Woman charged with unlawfully in a dwelling

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Wednesday morning at approximately 7:30 a.m. the homeowner of a residence on Creek Road in Chatham observed the cellar door (of their house) open.

An unknown woman was observed inside the cellar.

Upon police arrival, a 32-year-old Chatham woman was located, arrested and charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling.

She was transported to CKPS Headquarters and later released with a future court date.
