Letter: Rick Zavitz remembered

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our Acting/Incoming President of the Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village, Rick Zavitz this past weekend.

Rick served passionately on the Board of Directors for many years.

He was a beacon of leadership, voice of reason and a rock to the Safety Village.

Rick’s compassion and giving spirit was a God send to the Safety Village as he donated a great deal of time, money and expertise.

His giving ways opened up doors for so many people including a complete program at the Safety Village with Ontario Works that saw 30 men through this service gain a skill in concrete work.

We will never know the number of lives that he has touched with his charitable ways.

Although he had a business-like demeanor, he had a heart of gold and helped so many individuals and families through the years.

Rick was a very humble man who would never accept accolades for his community work.

Though he had a passion for his business, hockey, charity and friends, his biggest love was his family.

Our hearts are breaking for the loss suffered by his wife Michelle and children, Sara (Zack), Nick (Erin) and their families and friends.

Please know that you are not alone.

The community mourns with you at this time suffering such an enormous loss.

Rick’s obituary can be found, here.
