Man charged with assault police

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, just before midnight, an officer on general patrol observed a man, wearing dark clothing, riding a bicycle against traffic with no lights on St. Clair Road near Heritage Line, just outside of Wallaceburg.

Concerned for his safety, the officer stopped and tried to talk to the man about road safety, especially while riding a bicycle at night with no lighting or reflective clothing.

The man ignored the officer and road away.

The officer, in an attempt to identify the man, pulled alongside him again, at which time the man steered his bicycle into the front left bumper of the cruiser, causing minor damage.

The man then got off his bicycle and grabbed at the officer through the window in an aggressive manner.

The officer exited his vehicle and placed the man under arrest.

At this time, the man resisted and threatened the officer.

The man was taken into custody following a short struggle and transported to police headquarters where he again refused to identify himself.

His identity was eventually confirmed through the use of fingerprints.

The 56-year-old Chatham Township man has been charged with failing to identify, mischief under $5,000, assault police officer, resist arrest and uttering threats.

He has been transported to the Courthouse pending a bail hearing.

Executed warrants

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On April 4, 2019 a man failed to attend court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Yesterday morning, police located the man in a parking lot on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg and he was arrested.

The 26-year-old man of no fixed address was transported to the Courthouse pending a bail hearing.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, a man from the CKPS Wanted List was located by police in Chatham.

The 39-year-old man was arrested for breaching his Probation Order and failing to comply with his release conditions.

He was transported to the Courthouse pending a bail hearing.

Break and enter in Harwich Township

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime last night between 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. unknown suspects entered a home on Communications Road near Blenheim.

As the homeowners returned home, a suspect was seen fleeing through the nearby cedar tree line carrying a red Bauer duffle bag.

The suspects stole a Samsung cell phone, laptop computer and jewelry.

Officers searched the area but failed to locate anyone.

Theft of tools in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime over the weekend, unknown suspects stole various power tools from an unlocked residence on Curran Crescent.

Total value of the theft has been estimated at $1,200.
