Basketball tournament supporting Heart & Stroke

This years 4th annual Wallaceburg Shootout – 4 on 4 Basketball Tournament will be held Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Wallaceburg District Secondary School (WDSS) gym.

This all day tournament will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is FREE to the public to attend.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation will be on site, with important information on heart health, along with some exciting ways to donate and share personal stories.

“The tournament spots have been filled but come out and watch a fun day of basketball,” organizers said in a press release.

Each year the 4-on-4 tournament donates to a different local cause.

The first year, proceeds supported the Fields family, who’s son Brayden was in a horrific car crash.

The second year, supported the Wallaceburg Fireworks, and last year proceeds went to Cystinosis research, as Wallaceburg’s Adam and Katelyn Campbell’s two children suffer from this rare disease.

“This year tournament proceeds will benefit the Heart and Stroke Foundation, on behalf of Susan Persyn,” organizers say.

“Susan suddenly passed away in her sleep and was unaware of any heart health issues. She was a well known and active resident of Wallaceburg, and the mother of this events coordinator, Nick Persyn. Hopefully with some
education from the Heart and Stroke Foundation we can help the public learn more about the warning signs, no matter how small.”

Wallaceburg Subway has generously donated a ninbe-foot assorted party sub, for the half time lunch break.

Sandwich, chips and beverages will be available for purchase, with proceeds going to this event.

“We encourage everyone to come out, show your support.”
