Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement in Chatham-Kent, as there is a potential for a strong thunderstorm early this morning.

Forecasters say scattered strong thunderstorms over Michigan are expected to continue to track eastward and southeastward early this morning.

“These thunderstorms may move over southern portions of southwestern Ontario shortly after sunrise this morning,” Environment Canada officials say.

“There is considerable uncertainty as to the development, strength and track of these thunderstorms. Along with these thunderstorms there is the threat for isolated wind gusts up to 80 km/h and small hail.”

Environment Canada will continue to monitor this situation closely.
