Traffic stop leads to charges

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, a Chatham woman reported that the license plates from her Honda Civic had been stolen.

Shortly after 6 p.m. last night, an officer on general patrol observed a Monte Carlo travelling on McNaughton Avenue West with the stolen license plates.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and through investigation learned that the man was currently suspended from driving, driving with no insurance and not complying with his condition to reside in Niagara Falls.

The 40-year-old Chatham man was arrested and has been charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000, failing to comply with his release conditions, driving with no insurance, using plates not authorized for the vehicle and driving while under suspension.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Driver flees from collision

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 8:30 p.m. last night, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Keil Drive near Park Avenue in Chatham.

One driver fled the scene but was taken into custody a short distance away.

The 23-year-old Chatham man was charged with careless driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

He was released pending a future court date.

No one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $15,000.

Executed warrants

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 1 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol observed a man riding a bicycle with no light on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

The officer stopped the man for this offence and through investigation learned that he was wanted on outstanding warrants for theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and failing to attend court.

The 23-year-old Chatham man was arrested and has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Early this morning, around 1:30 a.m. an officer on general patrol observed a man walking in Chatham who was wanted for drug possession, mischief, failing to comply with his release conditions, failing to attend for his fingerprints and failing to attend court.

A 48-year-old Chatham man was arrested and released pending a future court date of June 28, 2019.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Shortly after 2 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol observed another man riding a bicycle with no light on Thames Street in Chatham.

The officer stopped the man and through investigation learned that he was wanted for failing to comply with his release conditions.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of liquid methamphetamine and crystal methamphetamine.

A 33-year-old Chatham man was additionally charged with two counts of drug possession.

He was released pending a future court date of June 27, 2019.

Break and enter in Chatham Township

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime yesterday between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. unknown suspects forced their way into a residence on Caledonia Road and stole jewelry along with two ASUS laptop computers.

Total value of the theft has been estimated at $5,000.
