Rain, rain, go away

By Glen Turner – Special to the Sydenham Current

I know that the weather is now almost always a topic of conversation lately, so…

The expression is ‘April showers bring May Flowers.’

What do June showers bring? July flowers?

NO!

They bring flood watches, flood warnings, soggy parks and fields that can’t be cut, water so high that boaters can’t get out of the creeks under local bridges.

They bring lawns that need to be cut more often (if they dry out)…

They bring mud, more weed growth and postponed events by the score.

There is ONE plus, I guess. You don’t have to water the gardens as often, but… you definitely need to weed them more often.

I lay in bed last night humming ‘Listen to the rythym of the falling rain…’ while it was raining.

The mental exercise for today is this… run songs with the word ‘rain’ in them through your mind.

I’ll start you off:

– ‘Purple Rain’ by Prince

– ‘Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head’

Your turn.

See how many you can come up with.
