Investigation launched after Dufferin Ave. garage fire

Firefighters were called to a garage fire at 4001 Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg on Sunday, June 23 at 12:39 p.m.

“Fire crews from Wallaceburg and Chatham responded to a fully involved garage fire (Sunday) afternoon,” stated Philip Thorburn, assistant chief, in a press release.

“On arrival, fire crews encountered heavy smoke and flames. The fire had spread to a close by fence, two vehicles, motor home and camping trailer.”

Thorburn said crews moved quickly to extinguish the fire to prevent if from spreading to the house on the property and the neighbour home.

“The radiant heat from the fire heavily damaged the vinyl siding on the neighbouring home,” Thorburn said.

“There were no injuries reported at the fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and property has been turned over to the Chatham-Kent Police Service.”

Damage is pegged at $140,000.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
