Citizen detains man caught going through vehicles

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police responded to the report of a suspicious man in the area of Library Lane in Chatham.

Upon police arrival, a local citizen had detained a man he found going through his vehicle.

The intoxicated man was arrested and upon being searched, was found to be in possession of a credit card, scratch tickets and loose change from another vehicle.

The 22-year-old Chatham man has been charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with break and enter

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Early yesterday morning, unknown suspects forced their way into a business on Richmond Street in Chatham and stole a quantity of collectible coins and footwear.

Through investigation, police obtained video surveillance of the incident and a description of the suspect was broadcasted to all officers.

Last night, an officer on general patrol, observed a man walking on Lorne Avenue wearing the same clothing and carrying the same duffle bag as seen in the surveillance footage.

The 21-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with break and enter.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police were speaking with a woman when they observed visible injuries to her face.

Through investigation, police learned that the woman had been assaulted earlier in the week by a man known to her while at his residence.

The 58-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with assault.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested on outstanding warrants

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, a man wanted for committing an indecent act, resisting arrest, drug possession and failing to attend court turned himself in to police.

The 29-year-old Wallaceburg man has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Traffic enforcement

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, officers conducted traffic enforcement on Indian Creek Road East in Chatham.

In just two hours, 13 motorists were charged with speeding, one motorist was charged with having an expired val tag and one motorist was charged with driving while under suspension.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, officers also conducted traffic enforcement on Talbot Trail between Port Road and Askew Road.

10 motorists were stopped and charged with speeding.

Motor vehicle collision in Blenheim

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning around 9 a.m. emergency crews responded to a two vehicle collision on Sandys Street near John Street.

One driver was transported to hospital as a precaution.

The other driver was charged with failing to yield the right of way.

Total damage was estimated at $4,000.

Motor vehicle collision in Dover Township

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night around 6 p.m. emergency crews responded to a two vehicle collision on Dover Centre Line near Bear Line Road.

One person was transported to hospital for medical attention of minor injuries.

Total damage was estimated at $20,000.
