Officers will be out in full force this holiday weekend in an effort to keep those travelling through our community safe, Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say.

Police officials say their Roadway Safety efforts will be focusing on the Big 4 – speeding, distracted driving, seatbelt use and impaired related offences.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service Marine Unit will also be patrolling the waterways, “so please keep the beer on the pier”, police officials say.

“Our ultimate goal continues to center around Roadway & Waterway Safety and raising awareness of the risks associated with impaired operation, speeding, distracted driving and other roadway infractions, such as improper seatbelt use through educational and enforcement means,” stated Traffic Sgt. Matt Stezycki, in a media release.

“Statistics indicate a vast majority of motor vehicle collisions that are serious or fatal in nature, are directly related to these types of offences.”

Stezycki added: “Our Service Mission Statement of remaining dedicated to making Chatham-Kent the safest Community in Ontario encompasses a number of areas, and Roadway & Waterway Safety are included in those priorities.”
