The 50/50 draw for Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation came to a conclusion on Thursday with a whopping overall pot of $294,360, and Bert Vanderheide of Blenheim, Ontario picked up his cheque for $149,180.
Bert, a 59 year old from Blenheim has been renting a home that he has really wanted to buy.
“My landlord is retiring and selling his properties, I really wanted to buy the house and now I can,” Vanderheide said, in a media release.
Vanderheide bought his ticket at the Foundation office on Tuesday at 10:49 a.m.
“I’m not really sure why I bought a ticket, but my wife said I should pick some up… and well happy wife – happy life.”
When asked what he wanted to do with the prize he simply responded “buy my house and share it with my wife.”
Vanderheide works for JoVan Mechanical Plumbing & Heating Contractors Ltd.
He said “I might see if I can take the day off tomorrow.”
