Man caught shoplifting in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, a man attended Canadian Tire and concealed a charging cable in his pants.

The man exited the store making no attempts to pay for the item.

An employee followed the man outside and stopped him.

Police were called and the stolen item was recovered.

A 23-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

He was released pending a future court date of July 19, 2019.

Woman charged with fraud related offences

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Earlier this month, a citizen reported that unknown suspects had entered her unlocked vehicle on Indian Creek Road and stolen her debit card.

Through investigation, police identified the woman who used the stolen credit card around Chatham to make several purchases before the owner could cancel it.

Yesterday afternoon, police located the woman and she was arrested.

Upon being searched, she was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia contrary to her release conditions.

The 27-year-old Blenheim woman has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with her release conditions, fraud under $5,000 and four counts of unauthorized use of a credit card.

She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Executed warrants

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, a man wanted in connection with domestic related offences was arrested in Sarnia.

The 32-year-old Walpole Island man was transported back to Chatham-Kent for court purposes.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to the report of a suspicious person in the area of Inshes Avenue in Chatham.

Through investigation, police located the man near Patteson Avenue and learned that he was wanted for assaulting his grandmother earlier this week when she refused to give him money.

The man was arrested and upon being searched was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

The 26-year-old Blenheim man was additionally charged with drug possession.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, an officer on general patrol located a man on King Street in Chatham wanted for domestic related offences, aggravated assault, failing to comply with his release conditions and failing to attend court.

The 28-year-old Chatham man was arrested and has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Traffic enforcement

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police conducted speed enforcement on Middle Line.

Approximately 75 vehicles were observed travelling through the area with no infractions recorded.

Motor vehicle collision in Dover Township

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 4:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon, emergency crews responded to the intersection of Winter Line Road and Pain Court Line in regards to a three vehicle collision.

Luckily, no one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $60,000.

A 38-year-old Etobicoke man was charged with failing to yield the right of way.
