Police: Drug charges, stolen vehicle recovered

Traffic stop leads to multiple arrests and drug seizure

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 7 a.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2019 an officer on patrol observed a vehicle travelling on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg.

The licence plate was run and the officer learned that the owner of the vehicle was a suspended driver.

The vehicle was stopped and the driver of the vehicle, who was not the owner, was also a suspended driver.

He was arrested and searched.

A number of drugs were found on the driver including suspected hydromorphone, oxycodone, heroine and suboxone.

A passenger who was in the vehicle was also identified and was found to be breaching a curfew condition of his bail.

The 35-year-old Walpole Island male driver was charged with five counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.

He was held for a bail hearing and later released with a future court date of July 25, 2019.

The 35-year-old Wallaceburg passenger was charged with Failing to Comply with Recognizance and held pending a bail hearing.

Man arrested for mischief in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On Sunday, July 7, 2019 at approximately 10:12 p.m., a man went to a house on Stanley Avenue in Chatham and threw a wooden plank through a windshield of a parked vehicle.

The man fled the area but was located by police a short distance away and arrested. Damage to the vehicle is estimated to be $1500.00.

The 22-year-old Chatham man was charged with Mischief Under $5000 and released with a future court date of July 30, 2019.

Executed warrant in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On Wednesday, July 3, 2019, the Chatham-Kent Police were contacted in regards to an assault.

The investigation revealed that a youth, who was under the care of his grandfather, was physically assaulted by him.

The youth was not injured and the Chatham-Kent Children’s Services were contacted. As a result of the investigation, a warrant was issued for the grandfather.

At approximately 11 p.m. on July 7, 2019 the grandfather turned himself into police.

The 49-year-old Kent Bridge man has since been charged with Assault and released with a future court date of July 30, 2019.

Stolen vehicle recovered

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On June 19, 2019 police were contacted to investigate a stolen vehicle from a Duluth Street residence in Chatham.

Police were unable to locate the Suzuki motorcycle at that time and the investigation was ongoing.

At approximately midnight on July 8, 2019 an officer found the motorcycle at a Richmond Street business in Chatham.

The bike was still intact and returned to the owner.

Shoplifter arrested in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On Monday, July 8, 2019 at approximately 3:30 p.m., a man walked into a Grand Avenue West store and stole a number of items.

The male fled the store and was pursued by employees.

Police were called and located the man down the road.

Along with a bag full of stolen items from the store, additional stolen merchandise was found on the man from another business on Grand Avenue West.

As a result, the 23-year-old Chatham man was charged with Possession Under $5,000 x 2, Theft Under $5,000 x 2 and Escape Lawful Custody.

He was released with a future court date of August 6, 2019.
