What is the Committee of Adjustment?

The Committee of Adjustment is an independent decision-making group made up of citizens, appointed by Municipal Council under the authority of the Planning Act of Ontario, to make decisions regarding requests for minor variances from any of the Zoning By-law, Sign By-law, and Fence By-law; and for requests for consent to sever property and establish easements.

The Zoning By-law regulates how land and buildings are used, the location of buildings, lot coverage, building heights and other provisions necessary to ensure proper development.

The Committee meets approximately 15 times per year (every 3-5 weeks).

Its regular meeting time, day, and location is 9:00 a.m. Thursday at the Chatham-Kent Civic Centre, 315 King St. W., Chatham, ON.

Members receive a per diem of $50 per meeting attended plus mileage.
