Baby Zara reunites with Chatham-Kent police officer

A week-old baby had a reunion with a Chatham-Kent Police Service officer on Tuesday, who helped bring her into the world last week.

Katie Verbeek brought her infant daughter Zara Valerie Rose Verbeek to the Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters to meet with Const. Gary Oriet.

Police officials say on July 9 at approximately 12:48 p.m. the communication center received a call from Chris Verbeek stating his wife, Katie, was in labour and the baby was not waiting.

“At 12:51 p.m. Constable Oriet was on scene and assisted with the delivery of this feisty little baby girl,” police officials said.

Police officials say Katie and Zara were transported to hospital for further medical assistance and are currently happy and healthy.

Katie and Zara posed for photos with Const. Oriet during their meeting on Tuesday.

Chatham Kent EMS officials presented Const. Oriet with a Pre-Hospital Delivery Pin and certificate for his part in the delivery.
