Flood watch issued issued by SCRCA

(SCRCA)

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch across the region.

SCRCA officials say water levels remain elevated as rainfall over the last 48 hours reached between 40 and 60 mm.

“The St. Clair Region received variable amounts of precipitation across the watershed,” SCRCA officials stated.

“Over the last 48 hours, precipitation totals range from 40 to 60 mm. This has resulted in elevated water levels across the watershed. Soils already saturated from the rain could contribute to ponding, increased runoff into watercourses, and possible increased erosion and seepage issues. Localized flooding will continue to expand into low lying areas, mostly agricultural floodplain and parkland areas.”

Roads impacted by highwater levels include:

– Waterworks Road near Stanely Road

– Pretty Road near Stanley Road

“The forecast for this week no longer anticipates significant rainfall, however forecasts are subject to change and staff will continue to monitor conditions,” SCRCA officials stated.

“River banks are expected to be slippery, with possible minor erosion. Residents are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.”

The Conservation Authority will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.

Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.

This flood watch will remain in effect until Wednesday, August 21, 2019 unless otherwise updated.
