A matter of perspective

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

I’ve got good news and bad news for you today.

First the bad news.

Summer is over.

Pool parties, campfires and late nights must now give way to returning to work and school starting up again.

But, there is also good news.

The fall season has begun and with it an opportunity to get a fresh start.

The school supply commercials declare that for parents this is the “most wonderful time of the year”, while for kids it’s doom and gloom.

How do you view the Labour Day weekend?

When I was a kid going to school I hated the Labour Day weekend, as it signaled the end of my summer fun.

As an adult, however, it is a time of hope and anticipation for me as a new season is ushered in and the excitement and busyness of fall begins.

It is a return to the predictable rhythms of routine that mark our daily journey.

How you decide to spend the rest of your Labour Day weekend is up to you, but why not see it as a both/and situation.

Enjoy this last gasp of summer before it’s gone, but with a view that change is in the air and the chance awaits for you to make a fresh start.

Yes, you truly can have it both ways – it’s all a matter of perspective.
