CK to Welcome International Students

On September 21, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Kingston Park in Chatham, the Lambton Kent District School Board and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Community Attraction and Promotion (CAP) section are holding the fourth annual International Student Welcome Event for new international students to the community. There are approximately 200 international students expected from countries around the world, including China, Spain, Taiwan, India, and Belgium who will attend LKDSB schools this year.

“The CAP team works to market Chatham-Kent to new residents and visitors, and helps to welcome them when they arrive. We’re excited to welcome new international students again this year, and to work with the Lambton Kent District School Board to ensure these students are connected to the community while they are here. Thank you to all Chatham-Kent families and community clubs who continue to open their homes and doors to these students, and showcase the great community that Chatham-Kent is,” says Victoria Bodnar, Coordinator of Resident Attraction and Retention with CAP.

The event is open to all secondary international students, their hosts, and members of the media. Students will have the opportunity to meet with local organizations who will talk to them about services and other activities in the area, meet with some representatives from local Chatham-Kent agencies, and create new relationships.

“We are proud of the growth of Lambton Kent District School Board’s International Education program. Last year, LKDSB welcomed more than 200 students from 23 countries. Our international students diversify our classrooms and provide global perspectives to the benefit of all students, staff and communities,” said John Howitt, Director of Education, Lambton Kent District School Board.

To help welcome the students, the Mayor of Chatham-Kent will officially open the event. The agenda for the event is below:
