Fire at Mitchell’s Bay community hall

Firefighters responded to a blaze at a community hall on Main Street in Mitchell’s Bay on Monday afternoon.

Fire crews from Station 4 (Dover) arrived on scene at 60 Main Street in Mitchell’s Bay to flames showing from the Diocese of Huron (Anglican) Hall,” fire officials said in a media release.

“Station 4 crews secured a hydrant for water supply and pulled multiple hand lines for attacking the flames.”

Station 5 (Tupperville) was called in for assistance, fire officials say.

“The flames were brought under control a short time after with no injuries reported,” fire officials stated.

“Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind residents; Don’t run cords under carpeting, bedding, or other combustible materials; also avoid placing cords across doorways or frequently traveled areas. Don’t overload outlets or use extension cords in place of outlets. Call an electrician to install additional outlets as necessary.”

No damage estimate has been released by Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services.

The cause has been ruled undetermined.
