Traffic stop leads to drug charges
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 3:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police received information about a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot on Thames Street in Chatham.
An officer on general patrol located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on Pitt Street near Barthe Street.
Through investigation, the officer learned that the driver was unlicensed and in possession of drug paraphernalia, prescription medications and hydromorphone.
A 55-year-old Bothwell man was arrested and charged with two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking.
He was released pending a future court date of October 31, 2019.
His vehicle was towed from the scene.
Executed warrants
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, an officer on general patrol initiated a traffic stop in the area of Bear Line Road and Gregory Drive in Chatham.
Through investigation, the officer learned that a woman in the vehicle was wanted in connection with a shoplifting incident at the Real Canadian Superstore, a gas drive off in Blenheim and failing to attend court.
The 28-year-old woman of no fixed address was transported to the Courthouse pending a bail hearing.
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, an officer on general patrol located a man wanted for domestic related assault on Grand Avenue East.
The 25-year-old Chatham man was arrested and released pending a future court date of October 30, 2019.
Motor vehicle collisions
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, just before 2 p.m. police responded to a two vehicle collision on Kent Bridge Road near Longwoods Road.
No one was injured.
Total damage was estimated at $500.
A 38-year-old Sarnia man was charged with an offence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 2:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Victoria Road between Block Line and Botany Line.
No one was injured.
Total damage was estimated at $5,000.
A 60-year-old man was charged with following too closely.
A 26-year-old man was charged with failing to surrender his license.
Watch for wildlife
With the Fall Harvest in full swing, drivers are reminded to be more vigilant on our roads, especially during dusk and dawn, which is when most collisions with deer occur.
Being aware and taking precautions can reduce collisions, save lives and protect wildlife:
– Scan the road ahead from shoulder to shoulder for any movement.
– Use high beams at night, when possible, and watch for the glowing eyes of animals.
– If an animal is crossing the road, stop as safely as possible, in your lane.
– Remember, if one animal crosses the road, others may follow.
– Never swerve suddenly. This may cause you to lose control of your vehicle, resulting in a more serious collision.
