Flood warning issued for Erie Shore Drive

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has issued a flood warning along Erie Shore Drive in Chatham-Kent.

LTVCA officials say there is currently flooding along Erie Shore Drive in Chatham-Kent.

“There is water on many properties and water is flowing over the road,” LTVCA officials said in a media release on Sunday.

“Erie Shore Drive remains closed to traffic. Please avoid the area if possible. “

The Strong Wind Warning for Lake Erie remains in effect, LTVCA officials say.

“The strong southwest winds that have been causing flooding along Erie Shore Drive overnight and (Sunday) morning are forecasted to continue throughout the day and to last into the late evening. Some forecasts suggest wind speeds could increase (Sunday) afternoon worsening the situation.”

Again, people are being asked to avoid the area,” LTVCA officials stated.

“The waves on the lakes can be strong, and the shoreline slippery. There could also be hazardous debris within the waves and water which could be thrown onto the shoreline. Standing water can also present unseen hazards. Children especially should be kept away from the water.”

Officials will continue to monitor the situation and update this advisory if necessary.

This message will be in effect until October 14, 2019.
