A ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday in Dresden officially kicked off development of a new 20-home subdivision called Leisure Lane District.
The development adjoins the neighbouring subdivision of Venture Crescent and together they represent Dresden’s largest housing expansion in 30 years.
Construction by Depencier Builders includes semi-detached units, single family homes and larger custom builds.
The semi-detached units will start at about $298,000 and prices go up from there.
Some Leisure Lane District homes are already on the market.
Speaking on behalf of Chatham-Kent Council, Ward 4 North Kent Councillor Jamie McGrail praised the developers for their forethought, investment and quality of work.
“Thank you for being a very active part of this community and making Dresden your home,” she said, in a press release.
McGrail also praised Dresden residents for making it an attractive community.
“Without the citizens, service groups, hometown shops and hockey teams, to name a few things, Dresden would not be what it is today,” she said.
“Neighbours working together raise community together.”
Ward 4 North Kent Councillor Joe Faas added: “I can’t speak enough about our community. It’s a very generous prosperous community. This adds to that – bringing more people into our community with all the benefits that has for the local economy.”
A written message from Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton praised the building of homes families can be proud of and praised such development as the backbone of Ontario’s economy.
Developer Dave Depencier said he and his partners decided that optimism was the best policy
“For any community to grow, you have to take a chance and you have to step outside the box and that’s what we did,” Depencier said in a media release.
“Small towns can sometimes get forgotten. If you stick with it and take chances, then you won’t get left in the dust. In the next ten years, Ontario is going to need one million new homes. That’s a staggering amount of homes that are required, and we have to do our part right here in Chatham-Kent and Dresden, Ontario. We have to make them affordable and we have to make them accessible. We are very proud to open our doors and invite new people here.”
Semi-detached units will start at just shy of $298,000, with the prices of the other homes going up from there.
