Illegal firearms seized in Thamesville

(Chatham-Kent Police Service)

Man charged with firearm related offences

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, members of Community Patrol, with the assistance of the Critical Incident Response Team, executed a Public Safety Warrant at a residence in the Thamesville area.

A systematic search of the residence resulted in the following being located and seized:

– Browning 12 gauge ‘light twelve’ shotgun with the barrel sawed off

– Cooey shotgun with the barrel sawed off and a taped handle

– 6 – 12 gauge shotgun shells

– 1 – 22-250 calibre rifle round

– Stolen license plates

Both shotguns, with the barrel sawed off, make them prohibited firearms.

They were both found by officers, hidden in the residence with neither of them properly stored.

The homeowner, a 30-year-old Thamesville man, was arrested and charged with numerous firearm related offences, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and failing to comply with his Probation Order.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
