‘The cat came back’

By Glen Turner – Special to the Sydenham Current

Some will remember a song… “And the cat came back, the ver…”.

No. Sing it again, but add, “three months later”, not “the very next day”.

It actually happened.

My little cat buddy Dexter is home, after a three month “vacation?” – spent mostly about a block-and-a-half from home. Grrrrr…

Thanks to a very lovely neighbour, (thank you so much, Holly) who worried about him when he decided to visit her regularly for a hand-out, and some affection… she got in touch with different people, including Mary-Ann Holland from K-9 Klips, who knew about Dexter’s escape from my house.

Note: totally indoor cat, six-years-old, and a rescue.

Well she and I connected… it was my bud!

I WAS worried that it might not be him.

And, thanks to her, and to Dr. Tracy at the Wallaceburg Animal Hospital and the great staff there (thank-you, Charlotte), Dexter is home, happy… and has grown up a LOT!

We’re not supposed to anthropomorphize animal behaviour, but I honestly believe that he’s ecstatic to be home.

He hasn’t stopped purring since he got here.

I now believe that ALL rescues feel the same gratitude (but that’s not the right word).

All three of my rescue animals are very, very special.

Sometimes, things just work out… even when you don’t expect it.
