Whyte’s Foods celebrating ‘National Pickle Day’

Whyte’s Foods is encouraging people to celebrate National Pickle Day today, November 14, and support the buy-local trend by choosing Canadian pickles.

“Canadians love pickles,” officials with Strubs said in a media release.

“In 2018, more than 34 million jars of pickles were sold in Canada. To produce this quantity, more than 500 million cucumbers are required. If you haven’t noticed, many pickles on the market today are owned by American companies. There are however great Canadian options. Strub’s is one of them.”

Whyte’s Foods, the owner of Strubs Pickles, recently opened a plant in Wallaceburg.

Every year, Strub’s buys several thousand tons of Canadian grown cucumbers to prepare fresh pickles on Canadian soil, Strubs officials said.

It’s with great pride that Strub’s also collaborates with Ontario growers, Strubs officials added.

“Celebrating it’s 90th anniversary this year, Strub’s is proud to be Canada’s National Pickle,” stated Claude Brière, VP Sales, Whyte’s Foods Inc.

Brière added they are easily found in the refrigerated meat section of the grocery store instead of the condiment aisle.
