Woman charged with theft

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, a woman was observed by employees stealing items from The Loft on King Street West in Chatham.

As police were called, a struggle ensued as employees attempted to prevent her from leaving the store.

Luckily, an off-duty officer was in the area and offered assistance.

A 31-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

She was released pending a future court date of December 3, 2019.

Man charged with resist arrest

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On July 25, 2019 the man was released from Court with several conditions.

Two of those conditions stated that he was to obey a daily curfew of 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. and not to possess any weapons.

Around 3:45 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol observed the man riding his bicycle on West Street with no light.

The officer initiated a traffic stop on Harvey Street for this offence and through investigation learned that he was currently bound by a curfew.

As the officer placed the man under arrest, he pulled away and fled on foot.

Following a short foot chase and struggle, the man was taken into custody.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of brass knuckles.

The 39-year-old Chatham man has been charged with resisting arrest, being in possession of a prohibited weapon and two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Motor vehicle collisions

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police responded to a three vehicle collision on Park Avenue East near Queen Street in Chatham.

No one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $21,000.

A 38-year-old Chatham man was charged with failing to yield the right of way.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, just before 4 p.m. police responded to a two vehicle collision on Sandys Street near Oxley Drive in Chatham.

No one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000.

The driver at fault was charged with disobeying a stop sign.
