I live in a zoo & wouldn’t have it any other way

By Glen Turner – Special to the Sydenham Current

A lot of research these days is saying that being a pet owner is really good for both mental and physical health.

That used to be something I’d probably snicker at.

Supposedly pet owners live longer, and being a pet owner helps reduce your blood pressure.

And the calming influence of pets is a stress-reducer.

Well, now I’m a believer.

Anyone who knows me, knows about my three. An amazing rescue dog (now 13) and two rescue cats (7 1/2 and 6 1/2).

And you’ve probably heard a ‘Dexter story’ or more. He’s the youngest cat, who took off on a three-month vacation over the summer.

They are, to put it simply, a joy.

They make me laugh, they worry me, they make me crazy!

I don’t have a house, I have a zoo!

Bed-time is the best.

All four of us, settled in for the night… all in one bed.

Lots of purring, snoring, cuddling and the occasional fight… thanks to Dexter.

I wouldn’t have it any other way.
