Chatham-Kent Council: December 9, 2019 recap

Chatham-Kent Council met for a regular/planning meeting on Monday night, December 9, 2019.

Here is a recap of the meeting:

– The sale of WDC Rail to 2719545 was approved.

– The recommendations from the report on Asset Divestment Timelines was not voted on. However, West Kent Councillor Melissa Harrigan entered a successful motion to launch a pilot project to take a focused look at parks and buildings in Wallaceburg. Watch for more on this story.

– A report on an Offer to Purchase – 55 Minnie Street, Wallaceburg was approved.

– Wallaceburg Councillor Aaron Hall entered a notice of motion about harm reduction. Watch for more on this story.

– East Kent Councillor John Wright entered a notice of motion about installing a pedestrian crosswalk in Ridgetown.

– Several planning reports were approved, including: An application for a zoning by-law amendment in Harwich, applications for consent and zoning by-law amendments in Tilbury East, Ridgetown and Dover and applications for a draft plan of subdivision and zoning by-law amendment on Indian Creek Road West in Chatham.

– A road closing a transfer to Bradley Farms Limited was approved.

– Council received several information reports, regarding: Provincial Download 2020 Budget Summary, Proposed Arena Complex, Harm Reduction Program Update, Action Plan for Achieving Service Level Standards for the Municipality of Chatham-Kent Service Manager of Housing Services, Recreation Services Revisioning.

– A report on Traffic Control Signal By-law Housekeeping was approved.

– The committee reports from the Drainage Board and Police Services Board were approved.

– A report on the 2019 Ontario Volunteer Service Awards Nominations was pushed to the January 13, 2020 Council meeting.

– A report on a Request for Proposal Award for the Consulting Engineering Services for the Replacement of the McDougall Line Bridge over Government Drain #1 in Tilbury East was approved.

– A report on CKTransit Fleet Ownership was approved.

– A report on Winter Sidewalk and Highway Maintenance was approved as amended.

– A report on the Opportunity Villages Community Land Trust was approved.

– A report on the Amending Appointment By-law was approved.

– A report on the Appointment By-law – Fire Chief was approved.

– Council met in Closed Session to discuss WDC Rail, Winter Sidewalk and Highway Maintenance and 508 Richmond Street in Chatham.
