‘Holiday with a Hero’ held

Today, members of the Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services, Chatham-Kent EMS, Chatham-Kent Police Service, Chatham-Kent OPP, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry and Ontario Parks joined forces with community partners for their sixth annual ‘Holiday with a Hero’ event.

The purpose of this event is to foster positive relationships between children and law enforcement officers.

A total of 95 kids between the ages of 6-12 from across the Municipality were selected in partnership with local school boards and agencies.

Each child received a Walmart gift card to purchase gifts for their immediate family.

The children were assigned their own hero as their ‘personal shopping assistant’ who escorted them around the store to assist in selecting appropriate gifts for each family member.

After shopping, the children were transported to the Bradley Convention Centre where they enjoyed breakfast with Santa and fun activities while elves wrapped their presents.

The goal of ‘Holiday with a Hero’ is to break down the barriers between young people and those in uniform, with the intent of developing better and more trusting relationships.

The gift cards were purchased through donations from individuals, businesses and organizations.
