Province invests $1.9-million into Wallaceburg & Chatham hospitals

Ontario is investing in the health and safety of patients as it addresses urgent upgrades, repairs and maintenance by investing nearly $1.9 million in the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

Monte McNaughton, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex and Rick Nicholls, MPP for Chatham-Kent-Leamington announced the funding on Wednesday.

“When someone goes to the hospital, they deserve to know that they will be comfortable and safe,” McNaughton said in a press release.

“The Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund will help our hospitals address urgent infrastructure needs, like repairs to roofs, windows, heating systems and more.”

The funding will be split in half between CHKA’s two hospitals in Wallaceburg and Chatham-Kent.

Spending will include lighting upgrades, fire alarm system upgrade, medical vacuum replacement and asbestos abatement.

“We are thrilled to receive these funds that will invest in critical infrastructure projects at both our Chatham and Wallaceburg sites,” said Lori Marshall, President and CEO of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, in a press release.

“These funds will go towards several high priority improvements and upgrades in our facilities and will ensure the delivery of Patient and Family Centred care for citizens of Chatham-Kent now and into the future.”

Provincial officials say investing in local hospitals is an integral part of the government’s plan to finally build a modern, sustainable and integrated public health care system.

Provincewide, 131 hospitals will receive a total of $175 million as part of funding announced on Wednesday.

“Once again our government is following through on its commitment to end hallway health care, invest in infrastructure and to provide safe and comfortable environments for patients,” Nicholls said in a media release.

“Our government’s health plan is centred around the needs of patients,” McNaughton added.

Ontario is investing $175 million in repairs and upgrades to 131 hospitals this year through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund.

In addition, Ontario is investing $7.2 million to address ongoing urgent and/or emergent infrastructure renewal needs for community health service providers who met specific criteria on a priority basis, through the Community Infrastructure Renewal Fund.
