Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame announces 2020 inductees

The annual inductees to the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame have been announced.

The Team Inductee is the 1978 Port Lambton Senior Men’s Baseball OBA Champs.

The Mike Childs Memorial Award of Excellence for the Builder category is The Sydenham Challenge Dragon Boat Festival, Brian Armitage and Don Verhaeghe.

The Ray Aarssen Memorial Award of Excellance for the Coach/Officials category is Brenda Schultz and Karl Toulouse.

The Maroin and Bill Chinnick Memorial Award of Excellence, the female athlete inductee, is Jody Christian.

The Dan Bertrand Memorial Award of Excellence, the male athlete inductee, is Kevin Stirling.

The 2020 Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame Honourary Chairpersons are Joan and Dale Irwin.

The Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame had previously announced their annual award winners for 2019.

The 2019 Harold Martin Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement co-winners are Brady Pataki and Alec DeKoning.

The 2019 Eldon Griffith Memorial Award for Athlete of the Year is Shona Branton.

The 2019 Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame / Ray Aarssen Scholarship winner is Megan McCarter.

The 2019 Allen Schepens Memorial Award for Coach of the Year co-winners are Dan VanCoillie and Louie Blackbird.

The 2019 Builders of the Year are the All-Ontario Farmers’ Bonspiel Committee.

A survivor from the tragic Humboldt Broncos crash is set to speak in Wallaceburg next month at the 39th annual Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction dinner.

“We are pleased to have Kaleb Dahlgren from the Humboldt Broncos as our guest speaker,” Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame officials posted on social media.

Tickets are on sale now for the event.

It will be held on January 25, 2020, at the UAW Hall in Wallaceburg.

Tickets can be purchased at Kim Murray Desjardins Insurance for $65 per person.

“Get your tickets soon,” Sports Hall of Fame officials said.

“They will sell out quickly.”
