‘Family Day’ fun at the Wallaceburg Museum

The Wallaceburg and District Museum held a Family Day activity, full of crafts and fun on Monday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Families could enjoy a museum-themed word scramble, family day crafts, and a 1 p.m. showing of ‘The Addams Family’.

“The craft that we did today was a roof with a chimney and a little poem on it that says ‘This is the roof that holds all the love for my whole family. Happy Family Day from the Wallaceburg and District Museum’,” Dee Gallerno, treasurer and volunteer at the Wallaceburg and District Museum, told the Sydenham Current.

“Basically, there’s all kinds of families now, I wanted to make room enough to include all the people that live in your house.”

Gallerno added: “I’ve worked, and volunteered here at the museum for about six or seven years now. I used to teach crafts to the local schools and we’re trying to get families to come in together, to do things together. This is a wonderful museum, you know. People are surprised when they come in here, just to see exactly everything we have.”

The Museum attracted families of all ages and sizes, with the word scramble scavenger hunt, which moved through each exhibit of the museum.

Each location revealed letters that spelled one word, relating to one of the featured exhibits.

“Everything is represented here, for people that used to work at the factories that aren’t here anymore and also to the children and grandchildren of people that work and live here in town,” Gallerno said.

“That’s what we’re trying to do, just get people to enjoy the Museum.”

The Wallaceburg and District Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
