Abandoned home destroyed by fire in Wallaceburg

An abandoned residence on Water Street in Wallaceburg was destroyed by fire over the weekend.

“Pumper 3 – Wallaceburg, Ladder 2 – Chatham, Tanker 3 – Wallacburg, Tanker 4 – Dover, Tanker 5 – Tupperview were dispatched to 654 Water Street in Wallacburg just before midnight on Friday night,” fire officials said in a press release.

“Pumper 3 was first on scene and found a two story house with flames coming from the first floor windows and doors. The home was confirmed abandoned by the property owner. Firefighters worked to knock down flames but were unable to catch the fire before it made its way into the attic of the home.”

Fire officials added: “Crews worked through the night on a difficult, deep-seated fire. The property owner was able to bring in an excavator Saturday morning to demolish the building.”

Fire officials say there were no injuries and the cause is undetermined.
